The NAME is a LIGHTNING ROD because it represents the division of life between good and evil, light and darkness, justice and sin, heaven and hell.
The NAME cries out a choice: whom do you want to serve and to whom do you want to give your life, on whom do you want to depend? Rebellious, stubborn, guilty people want to claim the right to decide for themselves which path to follow. Jesus denies this possibility. The apostle Peter said: "There is no other NAME under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
Jesus is kind, but he is not weak. HE LOVES the sinner but absolutely does not tolerate sin. He is not a negotiator. He IS THE LORD! It is this raw truth that arouses intolerance towards Christians. Jesus did not say: "Do as you please, all roads lead to God." This phrase would have made Jesus "politically correct," but Jesus is not politically correct. Jesus is Lord.
